Bridges On The Tyne

SOUTH TYNE - BLEAGATE FOOTBRIDGE

This first bridge after leaving Alston is a small footbridge linking the west river bank to Bleagate farm on the other side. The bridge is supported on two concrete pillars, the river being fairly narrow here as it moves nearer its source. The farm buildings are some distance up the hill and a footpath on the west side of the river gives a pleasant walk to Garrigill some two and a half miles upstream. Just before the footbridge the Black Burn joins the Tyne, flowing in from the west and the river bed is strewn with pebbles hereabouts.
