Bridges On The Wear

KINGSGATE FOOTBRIDGE

Much used by both University students and the general public, it crosses high above the Wear. It is a modern bridge in concrete designed by sir Ove Arup and is Grade 1 listed.

The bridge links the peninsula containing the cathedral and castle with the city to the west with its university colleges, and the footpath around the peninsular goes under it, while steep steps lead up from the west side of the river bank.
